California labor laws you need to know in 2022

Are you aware of the California labor law changes that occurred earlier this year?

This 2022 has brought new modifications to labor laws. These changes are solely intended to protect workers in California. In this week’s blog, we explain the most recent changes that may affect you in the workplace. These are some of them:

A shift that lasts a minimum of four hours: This new law requires that even if you have to go home early, you must be paid for a minimum of 4 hours of work. The same happens if you have to get to the office to find out if you will have to work that day.

California Independent Contractor Law: If your employer incorrectly classified you as an independent contractor then you can get $25,000 if you win the case in court.

California Overtime Law: Non-exempt employees are entitled to 1.5 times their regular wages for hours worked over 8 per day (or 40 per week) and 2 times their regular rate for hours worked over 12 per day. There are also other scenarios where workers are entitled to overtime in California.

California Exempt Employees Law: Laws in California should automatically provide the minimum wage to all California employees.

California Vacation Pay Law: According to California law if your contract says that you are entitled to paid vacation then it will not have an expiration date and you will be able to use it even after you are fired.

California WARN Law Layoffs: If a business is going to close or move its operations to another state, it is important to give their employees 60 days notice of the closure. If they don’t do this, they should give employees two months’ salary compensation and benefits.

These are some of the laws that you have to take into account. Make sure your employer is complying with them. If not, call us.
