Time has flown by and we are halfway through the year. Today we want to refresh your mind on employment laws that have been implemented since the beginning of 2022.
We hope that this will ensure that your rights remain protected. Lawmakers in California continue to make an effort to ensure that their employees are safe and protected. That is why they are constantly advocating to make laws efficient for all employees.
Here are some updates you need to remember:
- SB 331 Non-Disclosure and Non-Disparagement Provisions in Settlement, Separation, and Asset Protection Agreements: You can not have someone who suffered from sexual harassment or abuse sign an NDA or prohibit them from talking about it with anyone else.
- AB 1033 Expansion of Coverage and Mediation Requirements in the California Family Rights Act: This states that when you work with a company with 12 or more employees and have worked there for over 12 months you are entitled to receive 12 weeks off in case you or a family member need to get taken care of due to illness.
- AB 1003 Wage Theft Potentially a Felony: Having your employer do this might have consequences that can lead to jail. This used to be considered a misdemeanor but that is changing.
- SB 657 Electronic Transmission of Workplace Notices Authorized: This states that whenever you encounter a change of policy in a company or workplace you need to receive the change via an attachment in your email.
- SB 807 Employers Compelled to Cooperate With DFEH Civil Rights Investigations: This law gives DFEH more power to ask employees to participate in investigations against discrimination. This makes it harder for courts to deny them asking for additional information.
- SB 606 Workplace Safety Enhanced at Employers With Multiple Worksites: If an employer has a pattern of safety violation across different workplaces and CAL/OSHA discovers it they could receive a citation from the organization.
