4 major California Law Changes

These last few months have caused a lot of uncertainty in various aspects of our lives. From when was it going to end to whether remote work would continue to be normal. In the state of California, labor laws have been renewed more and more in recent months. To avoid confusion due to all the coming changes, we want to share with you four key changes in the coming months.

  • COVID-19 Precautions: Preventive measures against COVID-19 are changing almost daily. It is recommended that you constantly review the Department of Industrial Relations page to make sure that you are up to date with the measures that your employer has to be taking. Ask within your company if there is someone in charge of communicating these changes constantly and stay in contact with this person to make sure everything is working as it should.
  • Expanding reasons why you might take a break from work: According to a group of lawyers, this law has little to do with the changes that come with a return to normalcy after the pandemic. This new law seeks to expand the reasons you can get time to be at home and continue to be paid—involving reasons such as illness, the birth of a new member of your family, among others. This law could only affect smaller companies, but this is not 100% clear yet.
  • Payment data report: To ensure that salaries are equitable throughout the company, the company must submit an annual report stating how much it pays each person by race, ethnicity, and gender.
  • Board of Directors Diversity: This law requires that there be at least one non-white member to ensure diversity on the board of directors.

These are some laws that will bring many changes to your work environment. Make sure your company follows these new laws so that your rights are respected.
